TikTok Pixel Setup
This guide shows you how to connect your TikTok Pixel Code to AdTarget for conversion tracking.
Prerequisites
- A TikTok Ads Manager account
- A TikTok Pixel Code (we’ll show you how to create one if needed)
- Access to TikTok Events Manager
Step 1: Find Your Pixel Code
If You Have an Existing Pixel
- Go to TikTok Ads Manager
- Navigate to Assets → Events → Web Events
- Click Manage on your existing pixel
- Your Pixel Code is shown at the top of the page
If You Need to Create a Pixel
- Go to TikTok Ads Manager
- Navigate to Assets → Events → Web Events
- Click Set Up Web Events
- Choose TikTok Pixel
- Select Events API as the connection method
- Enter a name for your pixel (e.g., “AdTarget Telegram Tracking”)
- Click Complete Setup
- Copy the Pixel Code
Step 2: Generate an Access Token
To send server-side events, you need an Events API access token.
Generate the Token
- Go to TikTok Ads Manager
- Navigate to Assets → Events → Web Events
- Click Manage on your pixel
- Go to the Settings tab
- Scroll to Events API section
- Click Generate Access Token
- Copy the token immediately (you won’t see it again)
The access token is used in the Access-Token header when sending events. It is tied to your specific pixel and advertiser account.
Step 3: Add Pixel to AdTarget
Now that you have your Pixel Code and access token, connect them in AdTarget:
- Go to your AdTarget dashboard
- Select your site, then open its Settings
- Click the Pixels tab in the sidebar
- Click + Add pixel to open the setup dialog
- Select TikTok as the platform
- Enter a Name for the pixel (e.g., “TikTok Main Pixel”) — fill this in first, because the pixel cannot auto-save without a name
- Paste your Pixel Code
- Paste your Access Token
Validation triggers automatically once valid credentials are entered. You will see a “Verifying credentials…” spinner while AdTarget checks your credentials against TikTok’s API.
After verification succeeds and “Credentials verified!” appears, the pixel auto-saves only when all three fields are valid: Name, Pixel Code, and Access Token.
On success:
- A “Credentials verified!” confirmation appears
- The pixel auto-saves and is ready for use
- The dialog closes and your new pixel appears in the list
Verify Your Setup
After your pixel is connected:
- Check the Pixels tab — your pixel should appear in the list
- Go to TikTok Events Manager → Assets → Events → Web Events → Manage
- Check the Events tab for incoming test events
Success indicators:
- Your pixel is listed in the Pixels tab
- Test event visible in TikTok Events Manager
- Event status shows as received
Managing Pixels
Selecting a Default Pixel
If you have multiple TikTok pixels, click on any pixel in the list to set it as the default for your site. The default pixel is used for all TikTok conversion events.
Deleting a Pixel
Click the trash icon next to a pixel to remove it.
Troubleshooting
“Invalid Pixel Code”
- Make sure you copied the full Pixel Code from TikTok Ads Manager
- The Pixel Code is found under Assets → Events → Web Events → Manage
“Access token appears to be incomplete”
- TikTok access tokens are long strings
- Make sure you copied the entire token
“Invalid or expired access token”
- Tokens can only be viewed once when created
- If lost, generate a new token from TikTok Ads Manager
- Ensure the token belongs to the correct pixel
Events not appearing in TikTok Events Manager?
- Wait 5-10 minutes for events to process
- Check the Events tab under your pixel’s management page
- Verify the pixel is active and not paused
Next Steps
Now that your pixel is connected, configure which Events API events to send.
